About Michelle Penman

I would like to give you some of my background so that you can be confident in my skills and the reasons as to why I became a Nail Technician. 

I come from a family of eight children and grew up in Nelson. I now have three children of my own and two stepdaughters. They are all grown up and doing their own things. 

In Nelson when I was 18 years old, I trained as an Enrolled Nurse, through the Nelson Hospital. I nursed in Sydney, Australia in aged care and back in Nelson in Psychiatric care. I then took time out of nursing for a few years to run a motor camp. My husband had a very successful retail store in Nelson for many years and I helped a lot with this. After my husband passed away, I decided to go back to nursing and to move to Christchurch for a complete change.

I worked for Nurse Maude where I really enjoyed the clients I met in their own homes. I had thought that I would stay doing this work as I found it rewarding and enjoyed working with kind and caring colleagues. 

However, when COVID-19 came along, the biggest thing I noticed was how many of my clients could not attend to their feet. They struggled to physically cut them and of course, could not get out to get them done. Nurse Maude at that time was asking for voluntary redundancies and I put up my hand so I could train in Nail Technology. 

So NASA (National School of Aesthetics) was my choice of course. A year to qualify. The course includes training in acrylics, UV gels, nail art, and all manicure-pedicure treatments. It is a comprehensive course and so ensures my knowledge and ability.

I remarried a wonderful Christrhuch man (who also lost his wife) and live in West Melton, where I have set up a salon. I will work out at West Melton when I am not working in such elite retirement villages as Park Lane, Addington.
